My All-Time Favorite Fashion Spread

See the full gallery on Posterous

While organizing my work folders today, I came across this story I worked on with Max Abadian for Flare Magazine in 2007. Four years later, this is still my favorite all time fashion spread.

Unfortunately, as is always the case with Murphy's Law, the makeup work I'm most proud of was mistakenly credited to talented fellow artist Min Min Ma.

Flare ran a correction (in the very back pages of the next issue!) but.. is it wrong that after all these years, I still lament that my name isn't on that last tear?

'Style Express' - Flare Magazine, September '11

I've been getting a lot of great feedback on this story and lots of praise for the 'amazing makeup' but to be honest, I didn't really do that much. Sparkles on the eyes, red gloss on the lips and a whole lot of K-Y Jelly on the body. That's it. No foundation, no concealer and obviously, no powder or contour.

As a pro artist, I know what I need to do to get the desired look and as I've been known to say, 'I'm not charging by the pound'. Sometimes, less is more.

Sure there are some clients that we have to 'embellish' for but thankfully Flare isn't one of them. In fact, this entire shoot was super laid back. Chris Nicholls, his two man crew, Fashion Director Liz Cabral, our model Naro and I were the only ones on set and we were done in 6 hours.

Now if only ALL shoots could yield such spectacular results for little to no stress!

'Cuts Above', Flare Magazine May 2011

I know, I know. This is story came out in May. I'm a little late in posting. Thing is, it's been busy here in Toronto, not jut for me, but thankfully for most artists & photographers. It is our 'busy season' after all. So, better late than never right?

The great hair work here was created by hair guru Justin German of Shagg Salon and shot by one of Canada's top fashion photographers, Chris Nicholls.

Love, love, love the opening hair cut. If I wasn't hidin' so much with my long locks, I'd chop it off to match!;)

'Prints Charming', Flare Magazine May 2011 &.... June 2005

See the full gallery on Posterous

This is my second story for Flare Magazine titled 'Prints Charming'. One is chic and urban while the other is fresh and youthful.

In this most recent one, the lovely (and very tall.. 5'11"!) Amanda Laine was photographed by Evaan Kheraj for the May issue.

Editor, Fiona Green

Illustrations, Rachael Meckling

Hair, Justin German, P1M/Shagg Salon

The previous 'Prints Charming' below, was shot for Flare's June 2005 issue by my good friend John van der Schilden in the early stages of Agneieszka Wichniewicz' modeling career.

Hair, also by Justin German and styled by Flare's Fashion Editor, Liz Cabral.

Which do you prefer?
